Food Security.

I heard on the news last night that lately, more and more grocery stores and food stalls are being broken into and robbed. It truly is a sign of the times – the economy is bad, many people are out of jobs and families go hungry. Desperate times require desperate measures, as they say.

Security Cameras are being installed in most food establishments and while it is an added security measure for food owners and its employees, I doubt it will actually lessen the attempts and crime rate. If at all, it will just help the police get a lead and eventually capture the criminals.

You actually feel the desperation of the people because they don’t go for the big guns. They steal food so they will not get hungry. It is sad when you think about it.

Most security cameras nowadays use CCD-TV cameras, ranging from black and white to color cameras, night vision cameras and dome cameras. The whole security system is actually a bit complicated as these cameras need to be wired to a central viewing system for monitoring.

We once had a security monitoring system installed in the place where my parents are staying when there was an international convention and there were going to be 500 people staying in.

Kitchen Shopping

I have taken a rest from shopping this month and plan to come back and shop with the vengeance maybe in July. I just need to prioritize some things in the house and the next shopping spree will be for our house, specifically the kitchen.

Here are some things I’m thinking of buying:
1. Another set of Corelle dinnerware
2. Kitchen gadgets
3. Toaster, griller, and rice cooker
4. Flatware – I want sold ones with no design
5. Rice dispenser
6. A utility shelf for our microwave that has drawers so it can serve as our pantry as well.

There are area rugs I’d want to get but these are pushed to the end of my list.

Banoffee Pie

Banoffee pie

After a gruelling day of cooking all day for my daughter’s birthday, researching facts about mesothelioma and entertaining guests, I finally had time to put up my feet and last Mother’s Day.

I didn’t get any cake, but I did satisfy my sweet tooth – got this banoffee pie from Starbucks together with coffee :)

Banoffee pie (also spelled banoffi, or banoffy) is an English dessert made from bananas, cream and boiled condensed milk (or dulce de leche), either on a pastry base or one made from crumbled biscuits and butter. Its name is a portmanteau constructed from the words "banana" and "toffee".

Guess?
The leche flan is a dead give-away!

Razon's
If you haven’t heard of Razon’s or, worse, haven’t tried it, you are missing half of your life.
I was the happiest woman in the world when I saw that a branch opened near our place.

Razon'sRazon's
Razon’s is actually a very small eating restaurant – set up as a fast-food place. Their most famous item is it’s Halo-Halo.

Razon's Halo Halo

Nothing so special about this halo-halo. It is a simple mix of sun-ripened sweetened bananas (saging na saba), shredded macapuno, and two slices of leche plan with dayap rind.

And yet they taste so good! I really like the fineness of their shredded ice, and the milk they are using is soooo creamy!
