Me and PCOS.
I never really got to blog about this in detail but I think I have mentioned I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). It is generally something you would not even notice except for hormonal changes – missed periods, weight gain, more facial hair, pimples, etc. I was diagnosed with it February 2007, and given medications. To summarize, since I was diagnosed, I never really did a proactive part of drinking my medicines and make an effort to really shed pounds – which was very imperative as per my OB-Gyne doctor.
Of course, part of the reason why I never minded was my periods were always regular and though I was obese, I knew it was because I was eating too much – not because of PCOS. Fast forward to July this year, and I missed a period. I thought I was pregnant but I wasn’t. I was sure because I never suffered any pregnancy symptoms and tests kits resulted negative twice.
This worried me. In addition, my hormones are driving me crazy and though I have significantly reduced my intake of food and sweets for the past three weeks, I have been losing weight but looking more bloated, especially in the stomach area. I am afraid I would find something worse so I have scheduled an appointment with my OB Gyne next week. I am sure it will be a lengthy (and expensive) check-up, punctuated with lab tests and ultrasounds. I’m going face to face with Refurbished Ultrasound Scanners again and it is something I look forward to seeing next week. Let us hope I get a positive result – no more additional diseases!
Please pray for me!
