Grocery and Meal Planning

I’m getting better at it – grocery shopping and meal planning that is. Before I used to forget a lot of stuff we need and it is always a pain to run out of something here in the neck of the woods where we live. I also tend to either overybuy stuff or underbuy it. I’m bad in estimating how long our stocks will last. Our meals have a lot of wastage too. I guess in time I have gotten better at it.

Now even without a grocery list, I can shop without going over our expense limit. Two weeks in a row, I have not forgotten anything! It helps that I check our cupboards and kitchen drawers which needs to be replenished and which ones still have stocks of.

I also have set a day for meals called “Leftover Day”. Basically it falls on a Wednesday and we eat whatever food we werent able to consume from Mondays and Tuesdays. It also is my favorite day of the week because I get a rest from cooking.

It also helps that we just charge our groceries to our credit card all month and by the first week of each new month, we pay for it in full. We get to estimate our monthly food budget this way too.

When I was a student, I was offered a student credit card by Citi®. It has helped me a lot manage my finances when I was still a student (as long as I just buy everything school-related like books and supplies).
