Medicines
I never knew that prescription medicine is so hard to acquire overseas. A friend who has asthma needs to have prescribed medicine every month and it needs to be issued by her doctor, ordered through a canadian pharmacy, only then can it be dispensed. One time, since she needed more estrogen pills because she had a prolonged period, she was denied the needed medicines because the pharmacy thinks she is overdosing herself! Wow, talk about strict rules and regulations.
Here, people can get away with ordering so many over the counter medicines. That is why medicines like Benadryl, which has a drowsiness effect, are often abused by people who have trouble sleeping. The husband is actually working for a pharmaceutical company as well, so I somehow know what is the process behind acquiring prescriptions. Though, I have to admit as part of the medical field somehow (I’m a non-practicing nurse), I also have the habit to self-medicate myself.
For example, I blogged about how much my wisdom teeth were killing me in the previous blog posts right? When the pain really is too much to bear (I have low tolerance for pain), I double the dosage or I take them every two hours. When I was prescribed antibiotics, instead of ordering the one prescribed I somehow got the stronger kind and took that for 10 days instead of the ordered seven. Take note, it didnt even help my abscessed tooth as when it was extracted, the dentist still needed to clean the hole up because it still had abscess!
